New Amazon facility opens in Fayetteville
The giant new Amazon Fulfillment Center near Fort Liberty is starting to show signs of life. The new Amazon facility opened in June in Fayetteville at 6309 Bragg Blvd. The 1.3 million-square-foot-facility located in the Military Business Park was supposed to open in 2023, but a representative from Amazon told WRAL News the delay won't stop the company in its plans to hire 1,000 employees at the site.
Kamala Harris rallied in Fayetteville. I was there. Days later, the election changed
When I graduated high school among some 360+ Westover Wolverines — released to much acclaim upon the world — the vice president was Dan Quayle. I did not have many thoughts on Quayle, even though I liked politics from a young age. This was still years before he misspelled “potato” on live TV, in a sixth-grade classroom, no less. It’s a word I am confident all, or nearly all, of my fellow “west side” graduates could have easily nailed.

FORT LIBERTY — Nestled in the back room of the 18th Airborne Corps headquarters, Travis Bell’s barbershop walls are filled with photos and autographs. Aside from a photo of the late NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Sr., the photos aren’t of professional athletes, Hollywood actors and actresses or Grammy singers, but are of some of the nation’s top soldiers who have served at the former Fort Bragg, now Fort Liberty.

The Care Clinic: keeping the community healthy
Anyone who has visited the doctor or dentist knows that charges can shoot through the roof depending on what procedures are performed and what personal insurance will cover. Costs can become so high, medical financing brochures have become a common fixture at the receptionist desk. Those without medical or dental insurance are put more in a financial hole, coming out of pocket, sometimes for thousands of dollars.
Men of commitment, goodwill, and community service
For 28 years, I have enjoyed writing about Fayetteville and Cumberland County and the people, places, events and organizations that make our community unique and contribute to our quality of life. Organizations like the Fayetteville Rotary Club and long-time Fayetteville residents like Steve Driggers, Paul Johnson, and Charles Koonce ideally make our community more livable.
