Kalaveras is now open in the heart of Downtown Burbank, marking the restaurant’s 25th Southern California location. The unique fast-casual concept signed an 11-year, 6,750-square-foot (sf) lease at 221 N. San Fernando Boulevard, and offers customers a menu that reflects a traditional Mexican and Latin American cuisine with a modern Kalaveras twist.

Christine Deschaine and Kyle Fishburn of Kennedy Wilson represented the ownership, Al Liefer Trust & Saddleback Realty & Mortgage represented the tenant.

The prime location was formerly used as a restaurant for a quicker build-out of the space, features excellent visibility and street frontage, and is just steps from a convenient parking structure – all key selling points for a restaurant user.

“This site was a perfect fit for Kalaveras and the landlord who was very focused on selecting the ideal new tenant,” said Deschaine in a statement. “Transforming an old restaurant into a vibrant new establishment has created significant synergy and revitalization to the area.”

“The City’s Business Concierge services along with other City permitting departments, played a pivotal role in facilitating Kalaveras’ new Downtown Burbank site,” said Isaias Campos, owner of Kalaveras. “This location offered us a lively and growing base of customers looking to enjoy our venue and we love the overall vibe here.”

The restaurant features an atmosphere of vibrant colors, art, music, and culture of a time-honored tradition – El Dia de Los Muertos. Its menu showcases classics such as barbacoa and carnitas plates, as well as unique twists on Enchiladas Verdes, Tacos gobernador, and cocktails that are a mixture of urban mixology complemented by fresh ingredients including herbs, infusions, and homemade syrups.

Kalaveras joins an expanding list of exciting food and beverage establishments that have opened recently in Downtown Burbank such as Artelice Patisserie, Cafe Grano, Silverlake Ramen, and Over/Under Public House. The residential base has also been an important focus for the area with 1,000 brand new housing units currently approved or under construction.

“Downtown Burbank continues to grow its exciting roster of tenants as this urban core grows its housing, tourism and employee base,” said Michael Cusumano, Chair of the Downtown Burbank Partnership. “We had more than four million visitors here last year and are poised to outperform that number this year. All this bodes well for retailers and restaurants like Kalaveras as they look to be situated in a dense, safe area where visitors are attracted to the diverse mix of convenient amenities and walkable outdoor spaces.”
