Burbank to celebrate 20 years of the Chandler Blvd. bike path

An event commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Chandler Bikeway is set to take place next month.

On Aug. 14 from 6-8 p.m., the city of Burbank, the Burbank Transportation Management Organization and Walk Bike Burbank will host a free drop-in event near the intersection of Pass Avenue and Chandler Boulevard.

Event attendees will learn about the bike path’s history, local transportation options and ways to reduce dependency on motor vehicles and increase mobility, according to a city statement. The event will also feature a trivia game and provide attendees with the opportunity to enjoy a cookie and connect with neighbors.

“We are thrilled to partner with BTMO and Walk Bike Burbank, and invite everyone to join us in celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Chandler Bikepath,” Mayor Nick Schultz said in a statement. “This bikepath has been a vital part of our community for two decades and exemplifies the importance of sustainable and active transportation in Burbank. I am excited to see our community come together to honor the history and future of the Chandler Bikepath.”

In 2004, the city and the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority converted the Chandler rail line into the Chandler Bikeway. The 2.2-mile path extends from Mariposa Street to the city limit at Clybourn Avenue.

The path “has fostered community connections across the region, providing residents with a unique space to walk, run, and ride bikes, scooters, and skateboards,” in addition to connecting the east and west ends of the San Fernando Valley, with access to the Sepulveda Basin, North Hollywood Arts District, and beyond,” according to a city statement.
