BURKBURNETT ( KFDX/KJTL ) — A Burkburnett woman has made a plea deal for endangering three children, ages 6 months, 4 years and 6 years, who were left alone for hours in a motel room with drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Laniah Womack’s plea agreement is for eight years on probation and 120 hours of community service.

On August 3, 2023, shortly after midnight, Burkburnett police were sent to the Best Western on Sheppard Road to check on a reported theft and threats being made. The reporting person said the suspect, Womack, was in a room on the third floor.

When they arrived, officers heard a child screaming and found the door to that room ajar. Two children, a 4-year-old and a 6-year-old, told the officers they needed “a grown-up” because their baby brother was crying.

The officers found the baby on the bed and said his diaper was heavily saturated with urine. A strong odor of marijuana was detected, and multiple marijuana roaches and related paraphernalia were found within reach of the children.

An officer noted, “It appeared that these children were left to take care of the 6-month-old child.”

Police said the 6-year-old told them, “Niah said she’s gonna be right back,” and the 4-year-old said, “We’re just by ourselves.”

Approximately 13 minutes after the police got there, the children’s mother arrived and said Womack was supposed to be watching her children.

The children complained of being hungry and thirsty multiple times. Aside from three small containers of yogurt and a container of what appeared to be cheesecake, there was no food or drink in the room.

The report noted, “Womack appeared to have left the property prior to the initial response to the scene and did not return during the investigation, which lasted two hours and 45 minutes.”
Warrants for Womack’s arrest were issued.
