BURKBURNETT ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Since taking over VFW Post 10455 in Burkburnett, a local veterans motorcycle association has turned things around and increased membership. Now, it’s calling on the community to help continue that mission.

“Slowly start renovating this place and bringing it back to its former glory,” VFW Post 10455 Commander Dusty Burkybile said.

It’s been a big task for one non-profit.

“Feeling the pride that we feel when they walk in this building,” Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Public Relations Officer Candice Logan said.

VFW Post 10455 Commander Burkybile and the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association have taken over the Quonset hut and recruited new members to revive the veteran community in Burkburnett.

Burkybile’s next big project is to complete roof repairs for the building.

“That way we can continue our mission of taking care of vets in the community, providing them a place where they can get help, get service, get dealing with the VA, or just a person to talk to,” Burkybile said.

But those services were almost depleted from the community.

Since the CVMA pitched in to help, members Dave Klepper and Candice Logan feel the pride of veterans when they walk into the building.

“It did fall into a little bit of disrepair. But we got to hold the remaining charter members, who say, okay, what do we need to do?” Klepper said.

The VFW was a prosperous place for veterans off of Third Street in Burkburnett. But back in November, membership numbers trickled down to about two and faced closure.

This past January, the CVMA took over and pretty much got it back to its glory days.

“We went to almost closing to 102% in just that short amount of time with just the support of the people in Burkburnett,” Burkybile said.

As the post continues to grow, they’re calling on the community for support in maintaining the building.

“We are here for you. We are here for the community,” Burkybile said, as the Post and CVMA work to continue their mission of helping veterans.

The VFW is always taking donations. The goal for the complete roof repair project is $19,000. At the time of publication, they are at $1,500.
