Harvey mayor aims to freeze property taxes after residents get huge bills

CPCSC Welcomes Chris Gabriel as Assistant Principal of Col. Wheeler MS
Crown Point Community School Corporation is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Gabriel as the new assistant principal of Colonel Wheeler Middle School. Mr. Gabriel will join the district after leaving Union Center Elementary School, where he served as principal since 2021. Prior to this, he was the principal of Wanatah Public School and also served as assistant principal and athletic director at Kouts Middle/High School. Mr. Gabriel is returning to our district, having previously worked in CPCSC as a technology education teacher at Colonel Wheeler Middle School from 2007-2016. He also coached JV baseball and middle school wrestling. Mr. Gabriel is a graduate of Merrillville High School, earned his teaching degree at Purdue University, and completed his Masters Degree in Educational Leadership at the American College of Education.

Franciscan Health Dyer and Franciscan Health Olympia Fields were both recently named Bariatric Centers of Excellence (COE) by Optum. Bariatric departments belonging to the Optum bariatric COE program perform more successful bariatric procedures than many other facilities nearby. The Optum COEs also have fewer complications and readmissions, with 15% lower mortality rates, 16% lower inpatient hospital readmission, 12% lower reoperation rate for bariatric procedures and $4,239 lower average cost per surgical episode.
