Crews will being preliminary work in late summer on an Interstate 35W improvement in Dakota County, the Minnesota Department of Transportation said Wednesday.

MnDOT, which is working with the city of Burnsville and Dakota County on the $80 million project , said workers will resurface I-35W and repair or replace bridges between Cliff Road and the Burnsville split. Most of the work will take place during the 2025 and 2026 construction seasons.

Motorists can expect lane closures beginning in August as crews create “crossovers” for next year’s construction project, MnDOT said.

“Once finished, this stretch of I-35W will have a smoother road surface and an extended bridge and pavement life,” MnDOT said.
