In June 2024, the report “Color of Wealth Chicago” was released, which discusses wealth inequities across racial lines and contextualizes these inequities by adopting a historical approach. We speak with Dr. Suparna Bhaskaran (Institute on Race, Power and Political Economy at New School), one of the co-authors, about the mechanisms through which power has been transferred away from Indigenous, Black, Mexican, and Puerto Rican communities. She also discusses policy measures like Baby Bonds and Universal Basic Income, which could mitigate these inequities. Aurora, IL – Rollover Crash Leaves One Dead, Two Injured
Aurora, IL – Aurora Police are investigating a rollover crash that left one dead and two injured late Wednesday on the city’s far east side. At around 8:40 p.m., officers and firefighters responded to reports of a rollover crash near E. New York Street and N. Eola Road. According to the Aurora Police Department, the crash involved four vehicles, including a Dodge Challenger that rolled over after losing control. The driver of a 2002 Toyota Camry, Gerardo Cuatzo, 44, of Aurora, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Two others sustained minor injuries.
