Speaker Grassley hosting Freedom in the Heartland event
Iowa House Speaker Pat Grassley will host an event called “Freedom in the Heartland” on Wednesday, September 4 at the Bremer County Fairgrounds in Waverly. Homes For Iowa Delivers 100th Home To Rippey This Week
Homes for Iowa (HFI), in partnership with Iowa Prison Industries (IPI), is celebrating a significant milestone this week as the 100th home constructed through the program was delivered. HFI began in 2020 as a job training initiative for inmates at the Newton Correctional Facility, and the first home was delivered and placed in Jefferson that same year. The 100th HFI house was placed on its foundation in Rippey earlier this week. Region XII Council of Governments serves as HFI’s fiscal agent, and Executive Director Rick Hunsaker says they are proud to be associated with this work.

Doon Man Faces Felony Charge After Window Incident
Inwood, Iowa — A Doon man has been arrested on felony criminal mischief charges after an incident in Inwood. According to a criminal complaint filed with the Lyon County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 27-year-old Kevin Hise Jr. of Doon is accused of throwing rocks through the window of a home. He was arrested on Wednesday.
Fatal Accident in Clarke County
(Clarke Co) A Des Moines man died following a motorcycle accident in Clarke County. The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at 12:58 p.m. today (Friday) on I-35. Witnesses stated that 38-year-old James Paul Qualls, driving a 2014 Harley Davidson northbound, passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed. He then took Exit 33 and drove off the roadway. Qualls lost control and the motorcycle overturned, striking a sign post. Qualls was thrown from the motorcycle. The motorcycle rolled down the embankment and came to rest in the ditch.
