Gary Siddall: Taking the reins at the Buffalo Science Museum
Gary Siddall was twelve when he became a volunteer at Aquarium of Niagara. Born in Lewiston, Siddall’s family relocated to Houston before his last year of high school, but he returned to Western New York to attend Buffalo State, where he earned a psychology degree and followed up with a master’s in organizational leadership from Medaille; during college, he took on a job training sea lions at the Aquarium. At twenty-eight, he became Aquarium director—young for the post but entirely appropriate for someone passionate about working with animals and not-for-profit institutions. And this past February, at thirty-three, Siddall was named President and CEO of the Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences, overseeing the Buffalo Museum of Science and Tifft Nature Preserve. He is the first Buffalo-area born-and-raised museum head there in nearly five decades.
