    Montgomery County Police, Hyundai to host anti-theft clinic

    MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — The Montgomery County Police Department is partnering with Hyundai to host a free anti-theft software upgrade clinic in Burtonsville the weekend of Aug. 2 to combat car thefts.

    The clinic will be held at Paint Branch High School at 14121 Old Columbia Pike. Hyundai said the event is in response to persistent thefts targeting specific Hyundai vehicles and will provide eligible Hyundai’s with anti-theft software.

    According to a 2023 report from the National Insurance Crime Bureau , Hyundai and Kia vehicles experienced the highest theft ratings in 2023.

    The clinic is free, with no appointment or registration needed, for all residents who own or lease a Hyundai model of the years 2011-2021 with a mechanical ‘turn-to-start’ key ignition.

    According to the company, trained service technicians will be on-site to install and complete the software upgrade, which should take less than 30 minutes.

    All Hyundai owners are invited and will receive a free steering wheel lock for attending, according to the company’s website .

    Dates of the clinic:

    • Friday, Aug. 2: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    • Saturday, Aug. 3 : 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    • Sunday, Aug. 4: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
