A Trump supporter was killed and the former President was grazed with a bullet to the ear Saturday (July 13) at a campaign rally for the former President in Butler, Pennsylvania. A federal law enforcement source tells Los Angeles the incident is "being treated as an assassination attempt,”

A Secret Service spokesman said Trump is "safe." But, one local police official and one federal source tells Los Angeles a bystander and the suspected gunman were killed. President Joe Biden condemned the shooting in a White House statement that also praised the quick work of Secret Service agents who bundled his opponent and raced him to safety.

"I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania,” said Biden. “I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information. Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.”

Trump was taken away in a motorcade but not before he held up a fist and yelled "fight" with blood streaming down his face as he got into an SUV.

The name of the slain attendee was not released, and the gunman was apparently carried limp and bloodied from the scene by law enforcement after he was "neutralized," the Secret Service said.

The Trump campaign said in a statement, "President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act. He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow."

President Biden's campaign did not immediately release a statement but there was outrage from other members of Trump's party. Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) called it a “deeply sad day.”

“Relieved the former President is safe and doing well. Outrageous and tragic that anyone would make such a heinous and evil act,” he wrote on X.

“Grateful for the quick response from Secret Service agents,” he added. “This is a deeply sad day for America.”
