    Missouri, Illinois politicians react to gunfire at Trump rally

    (KTVI) – Secret Service agents rushed former U.S. President Donald Trump off the stage at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, following gunfire.

    Trump’s campaign said in a statement that the former president was “fine” after the shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania. A local prosecutor said the suspected gunman and at least one attendee are dead.

    The shooting at Trump’s rally is being investigated as an attempted assassination of the former president and presumptive Republican nominee, law enforcement officials tell the Associated Press.

    Several politicians from Missouri and Illinois have responded to situation:

    Mike Parson (Missouri Governor)

    Parson, a Republican, offered the following remarks via social media platform X:

    “Please join [First Lady] Teresa and me in praying for President Trump, his family, and all victims who were in attendance at the rally in Pennsylvania today. Please pray for our nation.”

    Josh Hawley (Missouri U.S. Senator)

    Hawley, a Republican, offered the following remarks via social media platform X:

    “Pray for President Trump. And for justice.”

    “Pray for the victims of this violence.”

    “The Justice Dept needs to release the shooter’s ID immediately and everything known about him. No sweeping it under the rug.”

    “It’s a wonder Donald Trump is alive. Let’s call this what it was. An assassination attempt with at least one innocent bystander murdered. The nation needs to know who did this. And why. And we need a full, public investigation by Congress into HOW it happened.”

    “The Senate Homeland Security Committee must investigate this assassination attempt and attempted mass murder and get to the bottom of how it could have happened.”

    Eric Schmitt (Missouri U.S. Senator)

    Schmitt, a Republican, offered the following statement to FOX 2:

    “I’m praying for President Trump and everyone who was in attendance at the rally, including the family and loved ones of the innocent attendee that was reportedly shot and killed. It is an absolutely horrific scene in Pennsylvania. Secret Service should be applauded for their quick response and bravery in the face of danger. God bless President Trump and God bless the United States of America.”

    Ann Wagner (Missouri U.S. Representative)

    Wagner, a Republican, offered the following remarks via social media platform X:

    “Praying for President Trump and anyone else injured during this hateful act of violence.”

    Wagner also tells FOX 2 in a phone call, “Any kind of political violence is absolutely unacceptable. … It just takes your breath away. It’s terrible.”

    Andrew Bailey (Missouri Attorney General)

    Bailey, a Republican, offered the following remarks via social media platform X:

    “Praying for @realDonaldTrump and all the attendees at his rally this evening. May justice be swift.”

    Mike Kehoe (Missouri Lt. Governor)

    Kehoe, a Republican, offered the following remarks via social media platform X:

    “@ClaudiaLKehoe and I are praying for President Trump and everyone in attendance at today’s rally.”

    Crystal Quade (Missouri House Minority Leader)

    Quade, a Democrat, offered the following remarks via social media platform X:

    “Violence is never the answer. Praying for President Trump, the United States, and all those affected by today’s senseless shooting.”

    J.B. Pritzker (Illinois Governor)

    Pritzker, a Democrat, offered the following remarks via social media platform X:

    Violence is never the answer in our democracy. I am closely monitoring the situation and praying for former President Trump’s recovery. Thankful to the Secret Service for their quick response.

    Tammy Duckworth (Illinois U.S. Senator)

    Duckworth, a Democrat, offered the following remarks via social media platform X:

    “There is absolutely no excuse—and no place whatsoever—for violence in American politics, and those responsible for this must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. I am keeping Donald Trump in my thoughts and hoping he has a swift and full recovery.”

    Dick Durbin (Illinois U.S. Senator)

    Durbin, a Democrat, offered the following statement to FOX 2:

    “Political violence is never acceptable. I’m keeping the former president, the bystander who was tragically killed, and all who were injured or whose safety was threatened in my thoughts. Sending my deepest thanks to law enforcement for helping keep those in attendance safe.”

    Mike Bost (Illinois U.S. Representative)

    Bost, a Republican, offered the following statement to FOX 2:

    “Tracy [his wife] and I are shocked by the news of the attack on President Trump in Pennsylvania this afternoon. We are monitoring the situation closely and praying for the President.”
