REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – President Biden and former President Trump spoke on Saturday night following a shooting at one of Trump’s rallies in Pennsylvania in which he was grazed by a bullet.

A White House official said that Biden spoke to Trump just before the president left Rehoboth Beach, Del., where he was on Saturday, to make a previously unscheduled return to the White House.

Biden addressed Trump and the shooting in remarks earlier on Saturday evening and said that he had tried to get ahold of Trump and hoped to speak with the former president.

The president also spoke to Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) and Butler Mayor Bob Dandoy, according to a White House official.

Biden told reporters in Rehoboth “there’s no place in America for this kind of violence” and that “everyone must condemn it.”

He was briefed again after his remarks by Kim Cheatle, director of United States Secret Service, Homeland Security Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas, Homeland Security advisor  Liz Sherwood-Randall, attorney general Merrick Garland, FBI director Christopher Wray and national security adviser Jake Sullivan.

Trump was on stage for just a short time at a rally in Butler, Pa., before gun shots rang out around 6:15 p.m. ET and Secret Service agents swarmed the stage to protect him. Trump’s ear was bloodied, and some blood had run onto his face.

Trump later said a bullet grazed his right ear.
