Former rivals Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler, both UFC stars, have found an unusual point of agreement . They've expressed their shock at the attempted assassination of ex-President Donald Trump .

During a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, Trump was shot in the ear before being whisked off stage by Secret Service agents.

The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks as the shooter. He was shot dead by Secret Service at the rally, but not before he killed one spectator and critically injured two others.

Trump's injuries are minor and he issued a defiant response on his Truth Social platform on Sunday.

"It was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening. We will FEAR NOT, but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness," Trump stated,.

People across the political spectrum have reacted with horror to Saturday's events in Butler, including UFC adversaries McGregor and Chandler. McGregor posted on X: "A 78-year-old multiple billionaire he should be on a yacht on the med touring golf courses. But he is not. He is in Pennsylvania spitting out bullets! Running for the love of his country! God speed Donald! God bless the United States."

McGregor and Chandler's ongoing feud, which was set to culminate at UFC 303 before an injury to McGregor led to a cancellation, continues to simmer. The fight's rescheduling remains uncertain, but recent social media exchanges hint at a possible matchup this year.

Chandler, reacting to McGregor's post about the incident on Saturday, stated: "We stand united on this one.."

McGregor then teased fans with potential fight news, saying: "I talked to [UFC president] Dana [White] today about our new date, all looking good! 24' for sure."

A staunch Trump supporter, Chandler expressed his shock over the weekend's events, posting: "Butler, PA is a tiny town in Pennsylvania by the way. I did a photo shoot in Cabot, PA with a sponsor and stopped by the boys and girls club in Butler to speak to some kids. Haven't been there since. Just crazy."

Other UFC figures also voiced their support for Trump. Colby Covington remarked: "President Trump is the toughest man on the face of this earth. God bless him and his family right now."

Sean Strickland chimed in with: "Trump is an utter savage... Man gets shot and still is for his people... Utter savage.."
