Heroic dad Corey Comperatore’s heartbreaking final social media post on day he was shot and killed during Trump rally

The beloved Pennsylvania father killed protecting his family during the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on Saturday appeared eager for the rally in his final social media post.

Corey Comperatore, 50, was prideful that he was attending Trump’s outdoor rally in Butler, Pa., as part of his weekend plans on Saturday evening.

“So what’s everyone getting into this weekend?” asked a popular pro-Trump X account known to fans as “Catturd.”

“Trump rally! Butler, PA,” Comperatore responded at 7:25 a.m., hours before he was fatally shot.

Comperatore’s final post has been viewed over 3.3 million times as of early Monday.

The former Buffalo Township volunteer fire chief was shot and killed by Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, at a rally for Trump that left the former president and two others wounded.

Comperatore’s sister, Dawn Comperatore Schafer, shared that her brother’s final act on earth was trying to protect his daughter when gunfire rang out during Trump’s speech.

“The hatred for one man took the life of the one man we loved the most. He was a hero that shielded his daughters,” she wrote on Facebook.

The heroic dad’s daughter, Allyson said that he quickly threw her and her mother to the ground to try to protect them.

“He truly loved us enough to take a real bullet for us,” Allyson wrote on Facebook. “And I want nothing more than to cry on him and tell him thank you.”

The selfless family man’s wife, Helen, reverberated her daughter’s loving description of the former fire chief as a “real-life superhero” who protected them.

“Yesterday, what [was meant to] be such an exciting day for my husband, especially, turned into a nightmare for our family,” Helen wrote on Facebook.

Fire chief and 43-year Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company veteran Kip Johnston said on Sunday that his former colleagues’ selfless actions exemplified how much he cared for his family.

Johnston described Comperatore as a “great leader, great family man, good friend” who stepped down as chief in the early 2000s to spend time with his two daughters.

Others have now flocked to the post’s comment section praising the father of two since his death.

“RIP HERO,” the popular X account Libs of TikTok wrote in the replies.

“May God welcome you home and give your family strength and peace,” another commented.

“The manliest thing you can do is to protect your family and lead… and you did that Corey. God bless you,” another replied.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro ordered flags around the state to be flown half-staff in honor of Comperatore and his final courageous act.

“Corey died a hero,” Shapiro said. “Corey was the very best of us.”

The Pennsylvania Gov. described Comperatore as an “avid supporter” of Former President Trump.

Two rallygoers who were wounded during Saturday’s assassination attempt are listed in stable condition and have been identified as fellow Pennsylvanians David Dutch, 57, of New Kensington, and James Copenhaver, 74, of Moon Township.

Crooks was stationed on a rooftop near Trump’s rally event when he fired multiple rounds down upon the former president and rallygoers before he was killed by a Secret Service sniper.

An AR-style rifle was found at the scene, with records indicating that the firearm was purchased by the gunman’s father.

Officials have not shared a possible motive in the shooting.
