BUTLER, Pa. (WJW) — Many questions continue to swirl surrounding the assassination attempt of 45 th President Donald Trump .

How could it happen? What was the shooter’s motive ? Who’s to blame for the lapse in security? And, how will it impact future campaign events?

All of these concerns are being addressed in an investigation that is led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. But residents in Butler, Pennsylvania are still shocked by Saturday’s events.

“My husband and I had this feeling that we shouldn’t be there,” resident Lynne Bergh, a Trump supporter, said late Sunday morning.

Bergh is sickened by the actions of Thomas Matthew Crooks, the deceased suspected shooter. Berch said she was shocked it happened in her town.

“It’s awful. You know, Butler is this nice little, small community. You never hear anything really, really bad happening. We’re close to Pittsburgh, that’s where you hear all the bad stuff, but not in Butler. Butler is not that kind. And obviously, the guy that shot him wasn’t from Butler, thank goodness, because that would be even worse. But to think that somebody lost their life and two people were critically injured and Trump is hurt just breaks my heart,” she said

Cody Comperatore, 50, of Sarver, Pa. has been identified as the man killed in the assassination attempt. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said he died a hero.

“Corey died a hero. Corey dove on his family to protect them,” Shapiro said. “Corey was the very best of us.”

Two more men have been identified as shooting victims of the attack. David Dutch, 57, of New Kensington is listed in stable condition. James Copenhaver, 74, of Moon Township is also listed in stable condition, according to a release from the Pennsylvania State Police .

A ‘Trump Authorized’ GoFundMe has been established for all shooting victims, quickly surpassing $4 million.

The FBI’s investigation continues to determine what motivated Crooks to carry out this attack, now being investigated as potentially domestic terrorism.

The FBI said the firearm used was purchased legally and the shooter was not known to the FBI prior to the incident. Crooks’ home and car were searched, and his phone has also been obtained.

On Monday, U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle released a statement detailing the status of the investigation and future event security. It reads in part:

“The Secret Service is working with all involved Federal, state and local agencies to understand what happened, how it happened, and how we can prevent an incident like this from ever taking place again,” Cheatle said in the statement .

Trump supporters in Butler who spoke with Fox 8 said they’re even more inclined to cast their vote for Trump come November.

“Because he stood there, and showed us he was still strong,” Bergh said. “He stood there and almost wanted to break out of the Secret Service guys, too, to tell us that he was okay. I think that’s amazing.”

The FBI continues to ask for the public’s help in obtaining leads from the event. Anyone with info can reach out by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI or online .
