TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Two Florida lawmakers introduced a resolution on Monday to honor the man who was killed on Saturday during an attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.
Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), and Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) introduced H. Res. 1360 to honor Corey Comperatore, who died while shielding his family from gunfire in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“Corey Comperatore died a hero to his family and hero to his country for his services,” the resolution reads.
The resolution also condemns “political violence in all forms” and calls on officials to condemn the assassination attempt of Trump.
“He should not have lost his life for exercising his First Amendment right by going to a political rally,” Gaetz said in a statement.
“Corey Comperatore led his life keeping his community safe and spent the last moments of his life shielding his family from danger,” Moskowitz said in a statement. “He deserved the ability to go to a political rally and come home. I hope my colleagues will join [Gaetz] and I in honoring his sacrifice.”
Bradenton police officers provide extra security at Republican National Convention Comperatore, 50, raised two daughters with his high school sweetheart while working as a project and tooling engineer. He also spent a decade as an Army reservist and many years as a volunteer firefighter, where he also served for a time as chief, according to his obituary .
“His courage was not the loud and boisterous kind; it was the courage of quiet resilience,” the tribute said. “Corey’s legacy is not just in the major milestones he achieved but in the small acts of kindness that marked his everyday life.”
