According to the FBI, former President Donald Trump ‘s shooter looked up President JFK’s assassination a week before opening fire on the GOP presidential nominee at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
As we previously shared, on Saturday (July 13), Donald Trump was hosting a rally in Butler, PA when a gunman opened fire at least eight times, which left Trump grazed on his right ear, one person dead, and at least two others severely injured. During the incident, Secret Service snipers killed the gunman, who was identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks , of Bethel Park, PA. Officials said Crooks opened fire from a nearby rooftop with an AR-15-style rifle.
The victim who passed was identified as 50-year-old former fire chief Corey Comperatore . He is survived by his wife and two daughters, whom he shielded as bullets flew at the rally. After the shooting, Donald Trump took to Truth Social, where he thanked the Secret Service for their prompt response, sent condolences to the families of all of the victims, and revealed that “a bullet pierced [his right ear] during the shooting.
Ronny Jackson , Donald Trump’s former White House physician, later revealed that he spoke with him over the phone, at which time he claimed he was alive today because he diverted his focus of attention as shots rang out. Speaking with the New York Times , Jackson, who is now a Texas congressman, said Trump believes his life was spared when he turned sideways to check immigration statistics from a chart displayed on a screen while on stage.
As soon as Donald Trump turned his head toward the immigration chart, Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire missing Trump’s head, instead grazing him on the right ear. Jackson said Trump specifically credited the “border patrol” and the “border patrol chart” for saving his life.
In a new update on Wednesday (July 24), FBI Director Christopher Wray revealed that Donald Trump shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks sought inspiration from the assassination of John F Kennedy , aka JFK, and his assassin Lee Harvey Oswald , who killed the President from a perch on the sixth floor of the Texas Schoolbook Depository in Dallas in 1963.
While testifying before the House Judiciary Committee, Wray said the FBI is still trying to determine a motive in the Butler rally shooting. Wray claimed that after officials examined Crooks’ laptop, they found “obvious” indicators about his “state of mind.”
They learned that on July 6, Trump’s shooter not only registered to attend the July 13 Butler rally, but he also Googled, “How far away was Oswald from Kennedy.” To note, Oswald assassinated JFK from about 265 feet away while using a sniper rifle. In Trump’s assassination attempt, Crooks was about 400 feet away from Trump with an AR-15-style rifle. Wray continued to reveal that Crooks had set up several explosive devices at Trump’s rally and even had a remote transmitter with him. And as we previously shared, Crooks also flew a drone about 200 yards from the stage to scope things out before the shooting.
