Special guest speaker at MSBA Bee Fest Sept. 8
The Maine State Beekeepers Association (MSBA) has announced that Dr. Thomas D. Seeley will be its keynote speaker at the upcoming MSBA Bee Fest taking place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8 at Viles Arboretum, 153 Hospital St., Augusta. This special event includes over 30 beekeeping demonstrations presented by Master Beekeepers and experts in managing honey bee colonies in Maine. There will be nine unique demonstration areas including an open hive demonstration area in the Kennebec Beekeepers Association’s apiary on the Viles Arboretum property. Bee Fest is a free event to all and we look forward to welcoming over 200 experienced beekeepers as well as want-to-be beekeepers looking for more information on the art and science of keeping honey bees in Maine.
Fort Kent mother and child escape as car bursts into flames after deer crash
A car caught fire after hitting a deer Saturday on Interstate 95 in Aroostook County, state police said. Troopers say Candyce Marsh, 43, of Fort Kent, was driving a 2024 Subaru Forester southbound in Dyer Brook and struck a deer. After pulling to the side of the roadway, Marsh and her child exited the vehicle.

Jefferson Fire Department Requests New Truck
At the polls in November, Jefferson voters will consider a request from Jefferson Fire and Rescue to partially finance a new firefighting vehicle. According to Jefferson Fire Chief Darin Walker, the truck, for which taxpayers will be asked to authorize the expenditure of about $97,000 from town surplus funds, will be paid for with funds from the fire department’s reserve account. The total cost of the truck is expected to be $373,710, Walker told the Jefferson Select Board at a meeting on Monday, Aug. 12.
Vandals drag, destroy Porta Potty at Maine baseball field
SHAPLEIGH, Maine — The York County Sheriff's Office is looking for people it says vandalized the Shapleigh Baseball Fields. On Sunday morning, a sergeant with the sheriff's office came across the scene at the baseball fields. He found a Porta Potty destroyed across the field. Officials say tire marks indicated that there were two ATVs involved.
