BYRON, Ill. (WTVO) — A woman and two teen girls were injured after another driver caused a head-on collision while trying to pass a car in a no-passing zone along Illinois Route 2 in Byron on Saturday.

According to the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, Anthony Anderson, 64, of Rockford, was piloting his Nissan Sentra northbound in the 10000 block of Illinois Route 2 when he attempted to pass a vehicle in a clearly marked no-passing zone around 8:46 p.m. Police said Anderson struck a Toyota Rav4 driving southbound head-on, causing the driver to lose control and hit a silver Honda Civic occupied by two teen girls.

The female driver of the Rav4 and the two teens were taken to a Rockford hospital for what authorities described as minor injuries.

Anderson was cited for Passing in a No Passing Zone, Improper Lane Usage, and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.

He was given a notice to appear at a future court date.
