Cabool man faces numerous felony charges for alleged series of sexual encounters with young girls

Following an investigation by the Cabool Police Department that began earlier this year, a man is charged with several felonies related to alleged inappropriate sexual relations with multiple young girls.

Tommy L. Smith, 54, of 928 Patton Ave. in Cabool, is charged with first-degree rape or attempted rape, first-degree sodomy or attempted sodomy – victim less than 12 years old, first-degree child molestation, second-degree statutory rape, second-degree statutory sodomy and patronizing prostitution.

A CPD officer reported beginning an investigation on Feb. 3 based on statements made by a juvenile-aged girl to a Child Advocacy Center (CAC) representative. Based on information revealed during the investigation, Smith is alleged to have engaged in sexual acts with the girl beginning in 2014 when she was 12 years old and continuing until late December of 2022 when she was turning 17.

The girl reportedly told the CAC representative that between the summer of 2021 and December of 2022, she had about 100 encounters with Smith in order to see friends or have extra privileges. She also said that in one instance he had paid her $120 to perform sexual acts.

On March 2, two other juvenile girls who had lived in the Smith home were interviewed separately by CAC personnel. They reportedly each said they had lived there about six years ago and had witnessed an older foster daughter who also lived there having sexual relations with Smith.

On May 22, the older foster daughter spoke with the CPD officer and said Smith had inappropriate sexual contact with her on many occasions beginning when she was 12.

Smith is held without bond in the Texas County Jail.
