Caddo Nation debuts community newspaper, 'Yo Hasinai!'
For years, the Caddo Nation mailed a newsletter to members. Leslie Halfmoon (Caddo / Delaware / Choctaw) said getting that newsletter meant a lot to her. “I remember when I was in college in New Mexico and so far from home, and I would get our little Caddo newsletter in the mail, and I was so proud,” she said.
Oklahoma awarded $124 million federal grant to replace Lake Texoma bridge
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is going to replace the US-70 Roosevelt Bridge across Lake Texoma using the largest federal grant in the agency’s history. The White House announced this week the project is approved for $124 million through the Federal Highway Administration’s Bridge Investment Program. The grant will pay for replacement of the bridge, which opened in 1945 and connected Kingston and Durant in southeastern Oklahoma.
Choctaw Nation opposes hydropower project to protect natural resources, sovereignty
DURANT – The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) Tribal Council has approved a measure opposing a hydropower project proposed by the Southeast Oklahoma Power Corp. (SEOPC). A formal letter about the issue was sent to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) detailing the Tribe’s concerns about potential harm from the project and the importance of Tribal participation in the approval process.
