If elected, J.D. Vance would be Ohio's first vice president
Ohio is known as the "Mother of Presidents," and apparently our native sons tend to go straight for the top gig.🤯 Mind-blowing fact: Ohio has never sent a vice president to the White House, meaning Sen. J.D. Vance could make state history if he is elected as Donald Trump's VP this fall.Technically, three vice presidents were born in Ohio: Thomas A. Hendricks (Fultonham), Charles W. Fairbanks (Unionville Center) and Charles G. Dawes (Marietta). They served with presidents Grover Cleveland, Theodore Roosevelt and Calvin Coolidge, respectively. But none were living here when they took office, and they're attributed to other states.Flashback: Gen. Curtis E. LeMay, a Columbus native, ran with segregationist presidential candidate George Wallace in 1968. They finished a distant third.Gov. John Bricker was the most recent Ohioan named to a major party ticket. In 1944, he ran with New York Gov. Thomas Dewey, but they lost to President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who earned a fourth term. Before that, Allen G. Thurman was the unsuccessful running mate of President Cleveland in 1888 and George H. Pendleton was on the ticket that lost to President Abraham Lincoln in 1864.The intrigue: Thurman's mansion still stands on Rich Street.

Flights of fancy: The Mazza Museum delves into the world of unearthly monsters
FINDLAY — For Dan Chudzinski, a bison jaw and moose cranium are artistic treasures; they are materials that can help an audience transcend into the fantastical world. That is just the objective at the 10th annual Enchanted Brush exhibit at the University of Findlay’s Mazza Museum, where visitors can peer into the worlds of unearthly monsters and fairytale characters. The Mazza Museum is showcasing a selection of fantasy artworks from across the world. The exhibition, which opened June 21 and will run through Aug. 30, is free and open to the public. This year’s theme is Heroes Welcome. “The idea for Heroes Welcome was that every great story has a hero,” said Chudzinski, director of curation and exhibitions at Mazza and founder of the Enchanted Brush exhibit. “Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and so, if you ask an artist to interpret that theme, I knew that we would be guaranteed to find a few surprises, which is precisely what inspired the exhibition.”
