The 2024 Caledonia Area Warriors spring sports season included a lot of successes and memorable moments.

A huge baseball win streak, a postseason softball rollercoaster, steady golf performances, and a decisive victory at state in track & field were only some of the highlights this spring.

    Golf

Both golf teams had successful seasons, especially the very young girls team, who in the coming years will gain more experience and more success in their future competitions.

The boys team had two All-Conference members in JT Hammell and Carson Klug. Individually recognized was Isaac Blocker as most improved by the team this year.

The girls also had All-Conference honors for Maggie Herman, Jazzlyn Hauser and Hayden Harms this season, and again, the sky is the limit for the girls team in the future, as a young group improves even more.

    Baseball

Baseball had a wildly successful regular season, losing only their first game, which was against Zumbrota-Mazeppa. The Warriors baseball team rattled off 19 consecutive wins in the regular season to secure the number 1 seed in the section, as well as Conference champions.

The postseason would not hold the same magic as the regular season, as the Warriors would fall to Cannon Falls and Randolph to exit the tournament early.

All-Conference honors for the baseball team include: Garret Konz, Hunter Goetzinger, Ben Stemper, Drew Yahnke, Owen Denstad, Reid Klug, Landon O’Heron and All Conference Honorable Mention would go to Tanner Ginther and Will Allen. Garret Konz also secured All Section 1AA team honors. With a strong pitching staff going into next year, the future looks bright for the baseball team.

    Softball

Softball's season was as equally impressive as baseball’s season. Softball scored a record of 18-2 this season, with their only losses coming against Winona Cotter and Stewartville. Both games were hotly contested as well, showing how talented the girls team actually is.

Braelyn Lange and Avery Augedahl carried pitching throughout the year, and the offense for the Warriors was supplemented by nearly every hitter in the lineup. It’s rare to say that every hitter in the lineup is dangerous on a team, but the Warriors have that much talent in softball that it’s true.

In the postseason, the Warriors won against Lake City in the first round, but fell to St. Charles in the second – meaning they needed to climb back through the losers bracket to get another shot at the Section championship. After climbing back to the championship game against Randolph, one of the most clutch moments of the year occurred. Facing a 2-1 deficit in the last inning of the game, Brairy Proulx would hit a homerun to keep the game alive and allow the Warriors to win in extra innings against Randolph. The Warriors would fall in the second game, but it shows how resilient this team is after facing adversity early in the tournament.

All-Conference Honors for the lady Warriors included Annah Anderson, Braelyn Lange, Kennedy Hansen, Avery Augedahl, Elsa Blum, Adrienne Lange and Paizley Lange. Honorable Mention honors would go to Aubrie Klug and Vivian Kittleson.

Braelyn Lange, Avery Augedahl, and Elsa Blum also received All-Section honors. Braelyn Lange and Elsa Blum both received Honorable Mention All-State Honors, too. Academic All-State was awarded to Kennedy Hansen. And Braelyn Lange was selected to play in the MN Fastpitch Coaches Association/MN Twins All-Star game at Caswell Park in Mankato.

The softball team looks to stay strong next year with a talented and tough young core, with even more depth coming off the bench to take starting time as well.

    Track & field

To cap off the recap, track and field garnered the most success this year – winning multiple events at State, and even taking home first place as a team at State as well.

Highlights of the year mainly included the relay teams for both the boys and girls teams. The girls 4x100 and 4x200 performed well all year in a tough section for those events. Those teams consisted primarily of Losiah Gay, Chloe Lange, Sienna Augedahl and Nicole Banse. The boys 4x100 and 4x200 were dominant all year, consisting of combinations of Eli Staggemeyer, Owen Staggemeyer, Gabe Curley, Fischer Wait, Jason Schock and Josh Beardmore. Ethan Stendel achieved firsts in many meets in the high jump and placed regularly in the 110m hurdles. Beardmore and Stendel would compete and win in the long jump as well.

The discus throwers were a solid group, headed by Jordan Tornstrom for the boys and Maggie Ideker for the girls.

The true highlight was the boys team taking 1st place at state, with wins in the 100m, 4x100m relay, 4x200m relay, and high finishes in many other events to give them that win.

All-Conference Honors for the team include Nicole Banse, Sienna Augedahl, and Chloe Lange for the girls team, and Josh Beardmore, Gabe Curley, Owen Staggemeyer, Eli Staggemeyer, Ethan Stendel and Fischer Wait for the boys team.

Congratulations on a great year for all spring sports, and be sure to keep checking in on Legion baseball scores this summer. We look forward to the fall sports, and be on the lookout for the Fall Sports preview in late summer.
