A tradition started several years ago is coming to an end as the monthly farmers markets held at the AeroPark in California are no more.

The “fly-in” markets at the St. Mary’s County Regional Airport were presented by Historic Sotterley and featured handmade goods as well as locally grown food and other items.

“Historic Sotterley has taken great pride in sponsoring the AeroPark Farmer’s Market for the past several years,” a release from the museum in Hollywood said. “Regrettably, we are unable to continue to host the market every month in 2024.”

Sotterley is still planning for its traditional end-of-year markets in November and December. More information on those markets and vendor lists will be released at a later date.

“We extend our sincerest gratitude to the members of our community who have attended previous markets to support Historic Sotterley and the outstanding Southern Maryland businesses that have participated as vendors. Your decision to shop local makes a tangible difference,” the release stated.

Two other weekly farmers markets in St. Mary’s County are open year round and a third will open April 27. That’s in addition to other local farm stands throughout the county as well as the Loveville Produce Auction.

The Barns at New Market, located at 29133 Thompson Corner Road, is open year round on Saturdays. In addition, it’s open every day of the week except Sunday from late March through late October.

The Home Grown Farm Market, located at 21078 Three Notch Road in Lexington Park near Gate 3 of Naval Air Station Patuxent River, is open Saturdays throughout most of the year as well as Wednesdays during the main growing season.

The California Farmers Market, located on Three Notch Road at the BAE Systems parking lot, is open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting April 27.
