After missing from Joshua Tree National Park in California, a dog finally reunited with his owner. The Doberman got spooked and ran away from his pet parent on June 9 and had been lost ever since. However, after visitors reported spotting a dog, the national park’s search and rescue team saved and reunited him with his owner.

On June 9, Christian Corona was camping with his beloved pet, Onyx, near Jumbo Rocks. However, the 10-month-old puppy got scared and ran into the densely wooded areas of the Joshua Tree National Park. The pet parent isn’t sure what spooked his Doberman, but he started searching for his pet.

After two days of looking for Onyx, the man gave up hope of ever reuniting with his canine companion. According to KTLA , the 28-year-old told authorities he “never thought he would see him again.”

Fortunately, some visitors reported spotting a dog to the park rangers on Sunday, June 16. Many thought Onyx was indeed a bighorn sheep. The search and rescue team climbed the rock formations where the Doberman was stuck. After calming the pup, the rescuers gave him a bowl of water to avoid dehydration and heat exhaustion.

Onyx soon warmed up to his rescuers and let them put on a harness on him to bring him down from where he had climbed. The search and rescue team then took him to a shelter that helped locate his pet parent and reunite them.

Riverside County Animal Services director Erin Gettis noted that ensuring one’s furry friends have a collar, tag, or microchip helps the shelter reunite them with their owners. Moreover, she reminded everyone that since the Fourth of July is coming up, it would be best to check if the microchip information is up-to-date. It would help rescues and shelters to reunite any missing pets with their parents promptly.
