Annual Heritage Festival fishing derby is Saturday
The annual Oil Heritage Festival children’s fishing derby, sponsored by the Oil City chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America, will take place on Saturday at Waltonian Park off Deep Hollow Road. Registration opens at 8 a.m., and fishing runs from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Due to traffic issues from the Veterans Bridge closure, parents are advised to plan for timely arrival. The derby features three age divisions with prizes, including a grand prize of an outdoor adventure package. Age groups are 5-6, 7-9, and 10-12, with possible adjustments for balance. Children must be accompanied by a guardian to sign registration forms and should bring their own fishing poles, though bait will be provided. Parents can help with baiting and clearing lines, and may assist younger children with casting.

Western Pennsylvania female chefs find success in male-dominated industry
The old adage that says a woman’s place is in the kitchen doesn’t necessarily translate to the modern American chef world. In the U.S., out of the more than 147,400 chefs, only about 22% of chefs working in industrial kitchens are female, according to 2022 statistics from Datausa.
For Love of Kensington Juried Exhibition
Starting this Labor Day weekend and continuing through the entire month of September, we offer a love letter to Kensington, our gorgeous new home town. For the past 30+ years, the Montgomery Art Association has hosted its Kensington ‘Paint The Town’ Exhibition every Labor Day weekend. One stipulation to exhibiting artists has always been that they needed to produce at least one artwork with Kensington as the subject. Some incredible work has been produced, many of them only seeing the light of day for one weekend. So now we offer this encore exhibition for artworks that take Kensington as their subject. New Kensington works may also be submitted. We love out town!
