A Sioux City man will serve up to 15 years in prison after his plea agreement was announced Monday in Plymouth County District Court. David Jack Diaz was arrested two years ago for a rear-end accident on US Highway 75 south of Hinton, in which a passenger in the other vehicle died, and the driver was injured. Diaz was originally charged with three counts, Homicide by vehicle while under the influence, serious injury by vehicle, and OWI. Under the plea deal announced this week, Diaz pled guilty to a lesser charge, Homicide by vehicle-reckless driving, and Serious Injury by vehicle. The OWI charge was dismissed.

Third-ranked Remsen St. Mary’s will play number five Lynnville-Sully Friday afternoon in Carroll in the 1A state baseball championship game. Remsen St. Mary’s beat Mason City Newman 7-4 Wednesday night in the longest tournament game ever played. It took 14 innings to decide it and included a nearly one hour rain delay. Remsen St. Mary’s Softball drops consolation matchup with No. 2 Wayne
The Remsen St. Mary’s softball team ended their season in a consolation matchup at the state tournament with a loss to No. 2 Wayne by a score of 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks gave up a couple of big innings early on to the tune of two Wayne runs in the first and six Wayne runs in the third. Remsen St. Mary’s head coach Monte Harpenau says he knew that the Falcons were capable of big innings.
With Less Than A Month Until School, New IKM-Manning Superintendent Excited To Be Serving The District
With the many projects scheduled for the IKM-Manning School District this summer, the new superintendent, Dr. Angela Huseman, has been busy ensuring everything is ready for the 2024-25 school year. Huseman was selected earlier this year as a shared superintendent between the IKM-Manning and Tri-Center School Districts, replacing former Superintendent Trevor Miller, who will now oversee the Exira-EHK and Audubon Community School District. Huesman, a Carroll native who graduated from Carroll High School in 1985, wasn’t thinking of pursuing a degree in education, but looking back, she realized it was her calling.
