During routine testing by the Calvert County Health Department, elevated levels of bacteria were detected in the swimming waters of North Beach and Chesapeake Beach.

On Wednesday morning, July 31, both towns issued advisories.

In North Beach, while the beach remains open, guests are advised to swim at their own risk. Chesapeake Beach has issued the same advisory for Bayfront Park.

The Calvert County Health Department routinely tests the level of bacteria at permitted bathing beaches and provides notices when the levels exceed the maximum average for recreational use.

Calvert County Health Department will test the water again on Monday, Aug. 5. Further notice will be provided at that time, according to the department.

Information on conditions for beaches monitored across the state is available through the Maryland Healthy Beaches Program at https://mdewin64.mde.state.md.us/WSA/Beaches/index.html/.
