    Cambridge baseball defeated by Johnson Creek

    Ian Heald had three of Johnson Creek’s 13 hits in an 11-6 victory over Cambridge on Friday, April 19 at Cambridge High School.

    Johnson Creek (8-0) led 5-3 after four innings, then broke the game open with a five-run rally in the top of the fifth inning. Heald doubled and tripled and drove in two runs to lead the Bluejays. Dylan Bredlow and Silas Hartz also had two RBIs each.

    Dugg Hartwig earned the decision, allowing five runs (one earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks over 5 2/3 innings. Bredlow finished up in relief, allowing one unearned run on no hits with one strikeout and one walk.

    For Cambridge, junior Clayton Stenjem, senior Marco Damiani, senior Devin Schuchart and sophomore Jett Horton each drove in a run in the loss. Stenjem also pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

    Cambridge is 3-4 on the season and 2-1 in the Capitol-South Conference.

    Waterloo 5, Cambridge 3

    The Waterloo Pirates took advantage of two Cambridge errors in the bottom of the sixth inning to get a 5-3 win over the Cambridge baseball team on Thursday, April 18.

    After Keegan Lauersdorf led off the sixth by reaching on error, Lauersdorf reached second base on a bunt from Ryder Jaehnke. Lauersdorf tied the game at 3-3 on a Cambridge error off the bat of Logan Dolfin.

    Jon Sampo then singled home Dolfin to give Waterloo a 4-3 lead, Caleb Bullock scored on a wild pitch to give Waterloo a 5-3 lead.

    In the seventh inning, Bryce Aubart retired three-straight Blue Jays after Cambridge sophomore Cal Nottestad reached base. Aubart earned the win, pitching four innings of scoreless relief.

    For Cambridge, junior Clayton Stenjem drove in seniors Brayden Lund and Devin Schuchart on a Waterloo error in the second. In the third, senior Owen Bernhardt hit an RBI single to score junior Kiefer Parish.

    Senior Carter Lund pitched five innings, giving up two earned runs and recording seven strikeouts in a no-decision. Sophomore Jett Horton pitched an inning, giving up three runs (zero earned) and recording one strikeout.
