    Deerfield baseball routs Rio, goes 1-1 at Waterloo Tournament

    The Deerfield baseball team went 1-1 at the Waterloo Tournament on Saturday, April 20 at Fireman’s Park in Waterloo.

    In a 7-4 win over Waterloo, the Demons scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning.

    Junior Bryce Eickhoff hit an RBI single to score junior Aiden Brown, Eickhoff then scored on an error later in the inning and sophomore Declan Pohlman scored junior Stephen Bagley on an RBI single.

    Later in the inning, senior Austin Anderson grounded into a fielder’s choice to score Pohlman and Anderson later scored on a passed ball. Brown and senior Adam Suess also drove in a run in the win.

    Senior Kris Hahn pitched 5 1/3 innings with six strikeouts in the win. Senior Jackson Drobac pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief, recording two strikeouts.

    In an 8-3 loss to Palmyra-Eagle, the Panthers scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning after leading 2-1 before the inning started.

    Aiden Moss walked with the bases loaded, Alex Harbison hit into a fielder’s choice to score Dylan Walsh and Taylor walked with the bases loaded for Palmyra-Eagle.

    Later in the inning, Travis Tiller hit a two-run single to score Harbison and Moss. Tiller then scored on a wild pitch to make the score 8-1.

    Hahn, Suess and Eickhoff recorded an RBI in the loss. Sophomore Landon Brattlie pitched five innings, recording 10 strikeouts and six runs (five earned) in the loss.

    Deerfield is 5-3 on the season and 3-0 in the Trailways-South Conference.

    Deerfield 24, Rio 1

    Senior Jackson Drobac drove in six runs in a Deerfield baseball 24-1 win over Rio on Friday, April 19 at Rio Community School District.

    Drobac went 4x5 at the plate with two triples and five runs scored. Drobac drove in senior Kris Hahn on an error in the first, drove in senior Adam Suess on an RBI triple in the second and singled home Hahn in the third and fourth innings.

    In the fifth, Drobac hit a triple to score Hahn and Suess for the sixth RBI. Also for Deerfield, sophomore Landon Brattlie, senior Austin Anderson and junior Bryce Eickhoff each drove in three runs.

    Hahn, junior Aiden Brown and junior Stephen Bagley all recorded two RBIs, while sophomore Declan Pohlman, junior Mesfin Drexler and Suess each drove in a run.

    Brown earned the win on the mound, pitching five innings with one hit allowed. Brown struck out 10 Vikings.
