    Deerfield softball gets wins vs Palmyra-Eagle and Rio; suffer three losses at Waterloo Quad

    The Deerfield softball team went 0-3 at the Waterloo Quad on Saturday, April 20 at Fireman’s Park in Waterloo.

    In a 10-0 loss to Waterloo, sophomore Riley Fisher went 2x2, accounting for half of the Deerfield hits. Juniors Lydia Mack and Cora Nelson also recorded a hit. Junior Addison Klein pitched five innings, giving up 10 runs (eight earned) and recording two strikeouts.

    In a 9-3 loss to Lomira, Nelson hit a home run. Nelson also had two RBIs and two stolen bases. Klein pitched five innings, giving up eight earned runs and recording one strikeout. Freshman Sydney Kind pitched two innings of relief, recording two strikeouts.

    In a 6-4 loss to Mineral Point, Nelson went 2x4 with two RBIs. Mack also recorded an RBI. Klein pitched six innings, giving up six runs and recording seven strikeouts.

    Deerfield is 7-4 on the season and 5-1 in the Trailways-South Conference.

    Deerfield 20, Rio 8

    The Deerfield offense had zero issues scoring runs on Friday, April 19.

    The Demons recorded 15 hits in a 20-8 win over Rio at Rio Community School District.

    Leading the offensive charge was freshman Mia Haberkorn and junior Cora Nelson. The pair both drove in six RBIs and hit a home run. Nelson hit a grand slam and also hit an additional homer.

    Haberkorn went 2x3, including the home run shot. Also hitting a home run for the Demons was sophomore Rowan Lasack, who finished 2x5 with two runs scored.

    Along with the rest of the offense, junior Saige LaChance hit a triple and drove in two RBIs. Sophomore Riley Fisher also recorded two RBIs, while junior Lydia Mack and junior Rylee Betthauser each drove in a run.

    Deerfield scored nine runs in the top of the first inning, while adding an additional seven runs in the third and four runs in the fourth.

    Mack pitched three innings in the win, recording eight strikeouts and giving up six runs (five earned). Freshman Sydney Kind also pitched an inning of relief, giving up two earned runs and recording a strikeout.

    Deerfield 10, Palmyra-Eagle 6

    Trailing 4-3, the Deerfield softball team scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to score a 10-6 victory over the Palmyra-Eagle softball team on Thursday, April 18 at Deerfield High School.

    Mia Haberkorn scored Rylee Betthauser on a fielder’s choice to tie the game at 4-4. Riley Fisher then scored on a steal of home to put Deerfield in front.

    Later in the inning, Cora Nelson hit a two-run single to score Lily Betthauser and Haberkorn.

    Nelson then scored off a Palmyra-Eagle error off the bat of Rowan Lasack and Lydia Mack then hit a two-run single to score Lasack and Addison Klein, putting Deerfield up 10-4.

    Klein pitched a complete game for the Demons, recording seven strikeouts. Mack led the Demons with three RBIs, Nelson recorded two RBIs, while Fisher, Haberkorn and Saige LaChance each drove in a run.

    Deerfield 12, Dodgeland/Hustisford 1

    Addison Klein did it all on Monday, April 15.

    Klein, a junior, led the Demons with three RBIs, while pitching five innings in a Deerfield softball 12-1 win over Dodgeland/Hustisford at Deerfield High School.

    In the circle, Klein recorded seven strikeouts and allowed three hits. At the plate, Klein went 3x3 with two runs scored.

    Sophomore Lily Betthauser, junior Rylee Betthauser and junior Cora Nelson all had two RBIs. Lily Betthauser went 2x3 with a double.

    Freshman Mia Haberkorn and senior Chloe Moore each had an RBI. Junior Saige LaChance and sophomore Riley Fisher both stole two bases in the win.
