Cambridge home talent: Colton Ehrke's sacrifice flyout scores Sam Mickelson for winning run in extra innings

While not many runs were scored between Cambridge and Footville in Home Talent Action on Sunday, June 2, the lone run proved to be the game-winner.

Colton Ehrke’s sacrifice flyout in the 10th inning scored Sam Mickelson for the winning run as the Cambridge Blues won 1-0 over the Footville Outlaws at Utica Park.

With nobody out in the bottom of the 10th inning, Mickelson was placed on second base as Cambridge’s “ghost runner” after recording the final out in the ninth inning.

Mickelson moved to third base on a bunt from JT Parish. After Jared Marty walked to load the bases, Ehrke hit a fly ball to right field that was caught. However, it was deep enough to score Mickelson for the winning run.

With both team’s being held scoreless for the first nine innings, fans at Utica Park were treated to a pitcher’s duel. Footville’s Trevor Aasen and Cambridge’s JT Parish both pitched eight scoreless innings in a no-decision.

In relief of Parish, Denver Evans earned the win with two innings pitched. With Footville inheriting a “ghost runner” to start the 10th, Evans left runners stranded at second and third by recording a groundout to keep the shutout going.

Cambridge is 2-1 on the season.
