After McFarland rallied from a 6-1 deficit to tie the game at 6-6, Cambridge’s Jared Marty came to the rescue on Sunday, June 9.

With two outs in the seventh, Marty hit an RBI double to score Tyler Kledzik, pushing the Cambridge Blues to a 7-6 win over the McFarland Muskies at Cambridge High School.

After the Blues took the lead in the seventh, Cambridge relief pitcher Denver Evans kept McFarland off the scoreboard in the eighth and ninth innings to close out the win.

In the ninth, Evans got out of a bases loaded jam with one out by recording back-to-back strikeouts for the win. Evans pitched four innings in relief, recording six strikeouts.

Also for Cambridge, Tyler Kledzik hit a solo home run in the first. In a five-run second, Carter Lund hit an RBI single to score Marty, while Evans drove in Lund on an RBI single.

Evans, Sam Mickelson and JT Parish also scored on wild pitches and an error in the inning. Parish pitched five innings in a no-decision, recording five strikeouts.

For McFarland, the Muskies came back due to the strong hitting of Austin Miller. Miller hit a two-run double in the fifth, scoring Gabe Roderick and Will Reinicke.

In the seventh, Miller scored the same pair on another two-run double. Miller then scored the tying run later in the inning on an RBI single from Jake Wedvick. Wedvick also scored earlier in the second inning on an RBI single from Gavin Wood.

Miller earned the loss, giving up one earned run in 4 1/3 innings of relief with seven strikeouts. Wood earned the start, recording 3 2/3 innings with two strikeouts.

Cambridge (3-1) faces Fort Atkinson in a doubleheader on Sunday, June 16 with the first game starting at 12 p.m. at Jones Park.

McFarland (1-3) faces Jefferson in a doubleheader on Sunday, June 16 at 12 p.m. at Fischer Field.

    Cambridge 1, Footville 0

While not many runs were scored between Cambridge and Footville in Home Talent Action on Sunday, June 2, the lone run proved to be the game-winner.

Colton Ehrke’s sacrifice flyout in the 10th inning scored Sam Mickelson for the winning run as the Cambridge Blues won 1-0 over the Footville Outlaws at Utica Park.

With nobody out in the bottom of the 10th inning, Mickelson was placed on second base as Cambridge’s “ghost runner” after recording the final out in the ninth inning.

Mickelson moved to third base on a bunt from JT Parish. After Jared Marty walked to load the bases, Ehrke hit a fly ball to right field that was caught. However, it was deep enough to score Mickelson for the winning run.

With both team’s being held scoreless for the first nine innings, fans at Utica Park were treated to a pitcher’s duel. Footville’s Trevor Aasen and Cambridge’s JT Parish both pitched eight scoreless innings in a no-decision.

In relief of Parish, Denver Evans earned the win with two innings pitched. With Footville inheriting a “ghost runner” to start the 10th, Evans left runners stranded at second and third by recording a groundout to keep the shutout going.
