One man dies in fatal South Arkansas shooting; suspect claims self-defense

CAMDEN, Ark. (KTVE/KARD) — On July 24, 2024, at approximately 12:51 PM, officers of the Camden Police Department arrived at Spring Street after receiving a report of a possible shooting and an injured victim. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 25-year-old male walking toward the roadway with his hands in the air.

The unidentified male allegedly told officers a firearm was located in the trunk of his vehicle. Officers then reportedly noticed a 36-year-old male lying unresponsive on the ground.

The victim was transported to a local medical facility where he was later pronounced deceased after sustaining a gunshot wound to the chest. According to officials, the suspect claimed self-defense, stating to officers the victim approached the suspect aggressively with a hammer and a pry bar.

The victim and suspect remain unidentified, and the case is still under investigation.
