    Roundup: Camden-Wyoming takes state title in Senior League baseball

    Camden-Wyoming posted an 11-9 victory over Mid-Sussex to win the state championship in Senior League baseball on Thursday night.

    The win avenged a seven-run loss to Mid-Sussex on Wednesday and sends the Kent County squad to the East Regional in Bangor, Maine.

    Logan Simmons and Drew Burns had two hits apiece for C-W while Makai Parker and Shane Powell both had two RBI.

    Powell was the winning pitcher after striking out three in four innings. Quinn Collins, Zack Raiche and James Suhrbier (save) all pitched one inning apiece.

    Mid-Sussex got two hits from Davis Watson and Eli Pucci and doubles from Braden Hazzard, Caleb Rogers and Kolton Barger. Pitcher Kolton Barger struck out five in 2.2 innings.

    C-W finished 3-1 in the three-team state tourney, including a 2-1 mark against Mid-Sussex. The Sussex County all-star team went 2-2 in the tourney and 5-2 in the postseason.

    Camden-Wyoming is 7-2 overall in all-stars heading to Maine, where the East Regional begins on July 18.

    Junior League

    Naamans 14, Smyrna-Clayton 2: The District II state champions reached the state finals with the win on Thursday night.

    Naamans (2-1) will face Laurel (1-0) on Friday at 7 p.m. at Seaford’s Nanticoke Little League needing a victory to force a second title game on Saturday.

    The state champion moves on to the East Regional in Du Bois, Pa.

    8-10 tournament

    Dover 5, Felton 2 : Dover won its opener in the District I tournament on Thursday night.

    On Friday, Dover faces Camden-Wyoming at 6 p.m. in Milford in the six-team, double-elimination tourney.

    Softball

    Junior League

    Western Sussex 13, Canal 0: The Sussex County squad captured the Junior League state title with the victory on Thursday night.

    After going 3-0 in the tournament, Western Sussex moves on to the East Regional in Orange, Conn. That tourney starts on July 18 with a trip to the World Series in Kirkland, Wash. at stake.

    Western Sussex out-scored its three opponents by a total of 47-0 in the state tourney, which was played in Milford.

    Canal beat Felton-Harrington, 15-10, in Wednesday night’s elimination game.
