A day after dispatching Pocosin 11-0, Cashie All-Stars matched up with eventual 8U Tar Heel District 7 champion Camden and gave them all they could handle.

Camden was able to score three runs in the top of the first frame thanks to a trio of hits and an error, giving them a 3-0 edge.

Cashie bounced back in the home half of the inning.

Sadie Davison got things started with a single to center before Paisley Copeland reached on a two-base error that sent Davidson to third. Both runners came home on a double by Reagan Leggett, trimming the deficit to 3-2.

Allie Mustian kept things going with a run-scoring single to left. She took second and third on the throw in and scored when Aubrey Phelps reached on an error. Phelps went to second on an error and third when Helen Godwin laced an infield single.

Phelps scored on an RBI-ground out from Abby Northcott, giving Cashie five runs for the inning and a 5-3 lead.

Camden seemed to be threatening in the second inning with a runner on and one out, but Leggett single-handedly ended it, catching a line drive and stepping on first to complete the double play.

Camden managed some defense of its own in the bottom of the inning when they erased singles by Karter Harrison and Amora Russell to keep Cashie from scoring.

In the top of the third inning, Camden started with three singles, a double and an error as they scored five runs in the frame to take an 8-5 lead.

Cashie responded in the home half of the inning when Copeland led off with a single and scored on Leggett’s single to right center field. Leggett raced to third on the throw home and then scored on an RBI-groundout by Allie Mustian to make it 8-7.

Copeland was the defensive star for Cashie in the top of the fourth frame. She fielded a groundout and made the throw to first for the initial out and then made a diving snag of a hit and threw out the runner for the last out of the inning as Cashie stayed within a single run.

The Cashie team went quietly in the bottom of the fourth.

The top of the fifth saw Copeland again snag a pair of line drives to keep Camden off the board and maintain the 8-7 score.

Cashie had a strikeout, a ground out and a pop fly in the bottom of the fifth and were not able to score.

In the top of the sixth Camden led off with back-to-back singles before Cashie recorded an out. Three more singles and en error gave them a 10-7 lead before a fielder’s choice from Copeland erased a run at home.

Unfortunately for the home team, a single allowed Camden to score the game-winning run as Cashie couldn’t catch up in the bottom of the sixth due to the run limit.

The Cashie team dropped to the loser’s bracket, but handled business once there. They knocked off Roanoke Valley 15-2, defeated Perquimans 10-9 and then knocked off Currituck 13-10.

They advanced back to meet Camden in the championship game, but unfortunately came up short 13-0.

The 8U Cashie All-Stars included Paisley Copeland, Sadie Davidson, Ridley Farless, Helen Godwin, Mary Braxton Gray, Karter Harrison, Reagan Leggett, Lillianna McKeel, Allie Mustian, Abby Northcott, Aubrey Phelps and Amora Russell.

The coaches were Molly Cobb, Will Davidson, Elliott Farless and Crystal Godwin.
