Local eateries and events in Bodega this July
With the focus on a sweet summer, I’ll again highlight my favorite spots for local edible goods. Nearly every season, I remind the folks of West County about Worker Bee Farm in Freestone. Last year, farmer Will Scott expanded the hillside crops to keep his produce selection more consistent. Go by and see what it’s all about and enjoy the diverse taste of our terroir. The small farm sits across Bodega Highway from the tantalizingly delicious and world famous Wildflour Bread.

July Gazette Pet of the Month: Meet Evita
Likes: Shopping trips, belly rubs from the grandkids, chasing tennis balls down the hall. Dislikes: Cats and rodents attacking the vegetable garden, cowardice. Fun fact: Evita has the heart of a lion. About Evita. About three years ago we were given a present. A beautiful cinnamon-colored chihuahua with the marking...
Bountiful Feasting at Buster’s Southern Barbeque Restaurant in Calistoga
Settled away in the tranquil Mediterranean-like countryside among fertile vineyards, exquisite bed & breakfast inns, hot springs and Michelin-starred restaurants, you’ll find Buster’s Southern Barbeque restaurant in Calistoga, California. On most days, you’ll find a lot of people pulling their exotic cars and fancy SUVs into the parking lot and lining up at this small food stand. At a quick glance, Buster’s might seem a bit out of place for the neighborhood along Highway 29 and Foothill Boulevard, but locals will assure you that this is the spot for feasting. The roadside open-air restaurant is the pride and joy of entrepreneur...

Multilayered Wine on the Plaza
With all the hubbub that defines the Wine Country experience for some—tourism, bachelor or bachelorette parties, DUIs—occasionally, locals just want a good glass of wine in a clean, well-lighted place (forgive me, Hemingway). But why keep it so simple? While we’re dreaming, why not make it an excellent...
Learn about animal preparedness with Fire Safe Sonoma
Animals are members of our family, and the thought of having to quickly get our stressed-out animals into a crate during a crisis or wildfire is the stuff of nightmares. And I don’t even want to consider leaving a furry friend behind. That’s why it’s so important, especially during this fire season, to have a plan to take our animals with us if we ever need to evacuate.
4th of July celebrations feature local farmers markets
Nothing says Americana more than good ol' fashioned picnics on the Fourth of July. Growing up in West Marin, we would pack a bunch of food and head out to the beach to join our local community to break bread, swim and enjoy an early evening bonfire as soon as the fog started to roll in. Now that I live in Sonoma County, there are so many fun things to do to celebrate the Fourth of July. Living in Kenwood, there is the world's cutest parade and pancake breakfast.
2015 Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Eastside Road Neighbors
The 2015 Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Eastside Road Neighbors was the winning bottle in the June Installment of Pick My Next Bottle. I did not decant the wine and paired it with grilled chicken and a fresh salad. Williams Selyem Winery began when Ed Selyem and Burt Williams started making...
