Claire's opening new location at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda
Is coming back to Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda in a new location. The ubiquitous mall piercing studio and gift shop has "improved our safety and sanitation procedures to give you a safe, clean, and happy piercing," the Illinois-based company says. Claire's will again go head-to-head with arch-rival Banter by Piercing Pagoda at the mall, giving potential customers - and in some cases, their nervous parents - a chance to comparison shop. When it opens, look for Claire's on Level 1 outside of Macy's.
D.C. Approves Small Cell Change for Standalone Poles
The Washington, D.C., Department of Transportation’s (DDOT) Public Space Committee unanimously approved new amendments to its Small Cell Design Guidelines on July 18, allowing standalone poles for node use and approving three standard standalone pole designs. WIA said the rules align with its small cell guidelines that include detailed setbacks and requirements that the new pole aligns with existing streetlights.

Police investigating a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run crash in Laurel
A man was killed in a pedestrian hit-and-run in the early morning of July 21 in Laurel. According to the Anne Arundel County Police Department, around 3:40 a.m. on July 21, officers responded to the intersection of Laurel Fort Meade Road and the access road to the Delta Bingo for a hit-and-run related crash. Devin Jones, 34, of Laurel, was found at the scene and taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
