Popular upstate NY waterpark reopening following tornado and severe storms

Roseland Waterpark, a popular amusement park located in upstate New York, announced that it will reopen on Friday following a three-day closure due to tornadoes and storms that hit on Monday.

The park stated that guests can take advantage of a special promotional discount of $9 off the regular admission price as a gesture of appreciation for the community's patience. On Friday, tickets will be sold at a reduced rate of $27.95.

"This offer is a token of our gratitude and an opportunity for everyone to dive back into the fun and relaxation that Roseland Waterpark is known for," the park said in a statement.

The park closure was announced on Facebook earlier this week. Park officials said that a damaged powerline structure on Eastern Boulevard in Canandaigua, New York, had obstructed the park's main entrance, making it impossible for guests to enter.

Tornado in Canandaigua NY

The twister rated an EF-0, or weak on the Enhanced Fujita scale, with peak winds speeds of 75 mph. It touched down at 4:48 p.m. Monday and was on the ground for two minutes, and traveled .7 miles, according to the data released Tuesday afternoon. The tornado had a path width of 75 yards.

The tornado damaged trees along the northern shore of Canandaigua Lake, from Kershaw Park through a development just east of the park and into Canandaigua Country Club, according to the Weather Service. High winds caused some trees to snap and uprooted others. Shingles, siding and other aluminum fascia were damaged on some homes. There was also some tree and utility pole damage along Eastern Boulevard.
