Fuchsia fun! Expert in the garden coming to Canby

Interested in getting a little free fuchsia advice as the spring gets ramped up and rolling?

Fortunately, the Canby Garden Club will welcome fuchsia expert R. Theo Margelony of Portland on Tuesday, June 11, at 1 p.m. at the Canby Public Library.

Margelony has been gardening most of his life, particularly fuchsias. His enthusiasm for fuchsias seems a family trait, passed down from his gardening grandfather and his gardening mother. He often jokes that he was born in a bed of fuchsias.

For many years he spent his time cultivating a small urban garden in Manhattan, called Fuchsias in the City, and is now establishing The Fuchsietum in Portland, his new fuchsia garden in the Pacific Northwest. With his expertise in fuchsias and other gardening topics, he often gives talks on these subjects.

Last autumn, he was a featured speaker at the Festival of Fuchsias, the British Fuchsia Society’s 80th Anniversary Celebration at the Royal Horticultural Society-Malvern Autumn Show in the UK, as well as at the 2024 NW Flower & Garden Show in Seattle.

His articles and contributions on fuchsias have appeared in the publications of the NW Fuchsia Society, the British Fuchsia Society, and the French Horticultural Society's Fuchsia Section. Other essays and writings can be found at the Fuchsietum.com as the Fuchsia+Blog.
