CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) — Mahoning County Public Health held a low-cost rabies vaccination clinic at Angels for Animals on Sunday.

People were lined up with their dogs, cats and ferrets to get the vaccine.

Colton Masters with Mahoning County Public Health said rabies is prevalent in the area.

If a pet comes in contact with a wild animal carrying the virus, it can be dangerous for owners and their pets. Masters said that’s why it’s important to take as many proactive steps as possible.

“We want people to get their animals vaccinated. We want them to protect their animals and themselves, and the best way to do that is to get their animals vaccinated,” Masters said. “We understand that cost can be a little bit high sometimes. So, offering these low-cost rabies clinics really gets to the heart of trying to solve that problem.”

Mahoning County Public Health will have another rabies vaccination clinic Aug. 18. That clinic will be at Woodworth Park from noon until 2:30 p.m. The cost per vaccination is $8, cash only. No appointment is needed.
