(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — The Cañon City Police Department (CCPD) said officers arrested a man after a shooting that happened on Saturday, May 11.

According to CCPD, on Saturday at around 8:15 p.m., police were called to a reported shooting in the area of East Main Street. When officers arrived, they found a person with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Officers started life-saving measures until medical first responders arrived and took the victim to the hospital. The victim was later flown to a hospital in Colorado Springs, and CCPD said the victim was still critical, but expected to survive.

Detectives with CCPD were called to the scene and were able to get a description of the suspect and vehicle that left the scene after the shooting. Detectives’ early indication was that the shooting was spurred by a road rage incident. Shortly after CCPD identified the suspect, 65-year-old Troy Richardson turned himself in at the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.
