BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Northern Light Acadia Hospital has received a generous donation in honor of a beloved late civic and community leader. “It’s a special place. It’s a place for growth, literally, a place for healing, perhaps a place for reflection, and probably one of the fun things when we think about the folks that we serve, a place to get your hands a little bit dirty in the process,” said Mark Lukens, President of Northern Light Acadia Hospital.

Edgecomb’s 250th Birthday Committee has arranged a self-guided Shop Crawl to celebrate Edgecomb’s creative artisans and the extraordinary handcrafted work they produce. On Saturday, July 27, from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m., the public is invited to visit Open Houses at selected shops and artisans’ studios—each showcasing exceptional handcrafted work that is produced onsite.
Matching grant helps restore historic building
HOLDEN--The historic Holden Town Hall building is getting a much needed upgrade. The two-story building, located on the Main Road in Holden, was built back in the 1870s when bathrooms were not indoors. Now, thanks to a $25,000 matching grant from the Lawrence Family Foundation, a bathroom is finally being added to the historic building and the first floor is also getting insulated.

Orono, ME - Jeremiah Jenkins of the University of Maine baseball program was selected in the 14th round at pick #418 by the San Francisco Giants in the 2024 MLB Draft. Jenkins, a native of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, had one of the most dominant three-year career's offensively in the history of Maine baseball, including the second-best single season by a player in program history in 2023. Jenkins slashed .332/.454/.675 across his 148 games played. His .675 SLG% is the highest in a single career in program history (min. 50 AB's).

Down East Showdown Recap and Winners
This past weekend, Bucksport Recreation/YMCA hosted the 3rd annual Down East Showdown in efforts to raise money for youth scholarships and Bucksport youth basketball. There were 16 teams representing 14 schools (two schools entered two teams) from as north as Presque Isle to as south as Portland for a weekend of competitive fun basketball. Although it was hot, the gym floors held up fabulously thanks to the teamwork between the YMCA and RSU 25.
