Canton buying former Arby's next to the Canton Civic Memorial Center
Canton City Council on Monday agreed to purchase the former Arby’s property at 1125 Market Ave, N for up to $600,000. City leaders say acquiring the property will provide some needed space to the north of the civic center and allow the city to eventually renovate and expand its bathrooms.
Canton City School District gets state funding to upgrade crossings and sidewalks
Canton City Schools will receive $500,000 as part of the Ohio Department of Transportation's Safe Routes to School program, which focuses on the safety of children who walk or bike to school. Canton to improve Sixth Street NW to prepare for Palace Theatre expansion
CANTON – Canton City will improve Sixth Street NW to help with the Canton Palace Theatre’s planned multimillion-dollar expansion. City Council on Monday approved setting aside $650,000 to relocate a storm sewer and waterline along Sixth Street NW and to start the design work of a streetscape improvement project along Sixth Street and Court Avenue NW. Streetscape improvements seek to improve the aesthetics of a road, often with updated sidewalks, trees and lighting.

North Canton voters to see levy on ballot to build new fire station
NORTH CANTON − City voters will see a 1.9-mill levy on the November ballot to raise $16 million to pay for a new fire station. If voters approve the levy, the owner of a $100,000 home would pay $69.30 more per year for 25 years. A focus group of residents appointed by council members and the mayor recommended June 24 that council seek a property tax to pay for the fire station.

Yearslong effort to widen Wales Road NE in Massillon enters home stretch
MASSILLON – A multiyear effort to widen and improve Wales Road NE is heading down the home stretch. Altogether, the work has been part of a $7.2 million project to resurface and widen a 1.4-mile section from Lincoln Way E to Hills and Dales Road NE. The scheduled completion date is July 31.

MINERVA CONCERT – New Song, Geneva College’s music and drama ministry group, will offer a free performance at 7 p.m. July 5 on Minerva’s Municipal Park Stage. Nine students are chosen in January for the group that begins their service in the summer following. Students are chosen because of their musical and dramatic abilities and because of the way they can articulate and convey their faith. New Song is directed by Lindsay Shaffer, Minerva High School and Geneva College alumna. Municipal Park’s parking is adjacent to the Minerva High School parking lot.
Massillon Museum sets yoga Fridays in July
The Massillon Museum’s beginner-friendly yoga class will meet every Friday in July. All ages and levels are welcome to participate in restorative poses, vinyasa and a five-minute savasana.
