Body of missing woman Raychel Sheridan found; boyfriend Sean Goe taken into custody

CANTON ‒ City workers found the body of a missing Plain Township woman in southwest Canton on Wednesday morning and her boyfriend has been taken into custody , authorities said.

During a news conference Wednesday, Stark County Sheriff George Maier said investigators believe Raychel Sheridan, 24, of Orchard Dale Drive NW was murdered in the apartment where she had lived with her boyfriend, Sean Goe. Saturday was the last time Sheridan had been last seen or heard from.

Goe, 26, was taken into custody by Canton police at a homeless shelter early Wednesday morning, the sheriff said.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Goe had not been charged with a crime. A court docket entry indicates that Goe is being held on $500,000 bond, signed by Canton Municipal Judge Kristen Guardado.

Maier said the investigation is ongoing.

Search for Raychel Sheridan began Tuesday

Sheriff deputies went to Sheridan's apartment on Tuesday to check on her after a call from her mother. Maier said deputies found the door to the apartment open but no one was inside.

Deputies, he said, observed things that appeared suspicious inside the apartment and obtained a search warrant. Maier was unable to elaborate on what deputies found.

"It apparently looked amiss to them," the sheriff said. "Most deputies have experience and training and they found something not quite right."

Maier said there was evidence of foul play and investigators believe Sheridan was murdered inside the apartment.

Overnight investigators searched targeted areas to look for Sheridan, Maier said.

Around 9:24 a.m. Wednesday, Canton workers who were emptying trash discovered Sheridan's body. Maier believes her body was found in or around the Mother Goose Land park, and her body was wrapped in something that may have been from her apartment. It is unclear if her body was inside a dumpster or near one.

Maier said the investigation into what happened to Sheridan, including how she was killed, is just getting underway and there are many questions that still need to be answered, including if the rumors that Sheridan was pregnant are true.

"There was a cycle of domestic violence," Maier said. "I believe they (her family) were aware of some trouble. She had moved out (of the apartment) for a period of time and lived with mom."

Authorities say Sean Goe ran when they spotted him

While at the apartment on Tuesday, deputies spotted Goe driving Sheridan's Jeep Liberty. He ran into a dense wooded area and eluded deputies and a K-9.

An extensive search by deputies, the Northern Ohio Fugitive Task Force, Ohio Highway Patrol's aviation team and patrol's Community Emergency Response Team did not locate Goe Tuesday.

Canton police found Goe around 7 a.m. Wednesday at a local homeless shelter. Maier was unclear how police located Goe but said the community and its interest in the missing woman's case could have played a part.

The department received several phone calls as well as social media tips, Maier said.

Sean Goe previously accused of domestic violence

According to a domestic violence criminal complaint filed in May, a Stark deputy alleged that, "Sean Goe did knowingly make the mother of his unborn child, Raychel Sheridan, believe that he was going to cause her serious physical harm by saying, "I'm going to (expletive) you up!"

The deputy also alleged Goe cut holes in the tires of Sheridan's vehicle so she could not drive it.

Authorities have said that Goe was wanted on warrants accusing him of misdemeanors-level domestic violence and criminal damaging, as well as felony-level grand theft of a firearm and burglary.

North Canton police last month filed criminal complaints against Goe accusing him of burglarizing an apartment in North Canton on April 2 on Rose Lane SW, stealing a 9-milimeter Glock gun and damaging the front entry door, according to court records.

Maier said Sheridan's death was preventable and encouraged anyone faced with domestic violence to reach out to groups that can provide help, including his office.

"Certainly we like to think this was a somewhat preventable death," he said. "You need to know there is help out there. Our hearts go out to the community, the family for this loss — it's another tragic death."
