    Running events are taking place all across Stark County. Here's when to lace up.

    For those looking to lace up their running shoes, there are many opportunities to push yourself in a timed racing event around the Canton area.

    According to the website Statista , 48.31 million people participated in running or jogging last year. That's about 14% of the U.S. population.

    The 5K is the most popular race to run, according to the website Race Raves , followed by the 10K and the 10-Miler. In 2017, 5K racers made up nearly half of the paid registrants for races.

    Among the races in Stark County, there is a 5K park run at Sippo Lake Park that happens every Saturday at 8 a.m. Throughout the year, there are also many themed racing events, like "The Haunted Forest Marathon" in October or the "Perry Rotary Turkey Trot" in November.

    In the shorter term, there are many races around Canton offering a chance for runners to test their limits going on for the rest of the summer months.

    Here are the races and running events going on in the Canton area for the rest of the summer:

    Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Up, Up & Away 5K

    During the annual Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Balloon Classic, OrthoUnited will present the "Up, Up & Away 5K," alongside a free "Fun Run" for kids 8 and under immediately following the 5K. The run is scheduled to begin at the OrthoUnited Spectrum North Canton Campus at 8 a.m. July 27. Registration is priced at $35 for the 5K.

    Royal Docks Backyard Crusher 5k

    Royal Docks Brewing Co. will have a "Royal Docks Backyard Crusher 5K " on Aug. 2. The run will begin at the Royal Docks site in Plain Township at 7:15 p.m. Adult registration is $35 per person while student registration is $20 per person.

    AfterClinic Snip Sprint

    The "AfterClinic Snip Sprint " 5K run/walk will take place Aug. 17 at Stadium Park in Canton. There will be a one-mile run/walk happening alongside the 5K race, and both are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Pre-registration is available for $30 for the 5K and $25 for the one-mile.

    Kickoff 6K

    As part of its ongoing race series, the Pro Football Hall of Fame Race Series will host a "Kickoff 6K" run on Aug. 24 at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton. Race time is set for 7:30 a.m. and registration is $40 per person.

    Pro Football Hall of Fame Half Marathon

    The Pro Football Hall of Fame Half Marathon will conclude the Hall of Fame's Race Series on Aug. 25. The race will begin at the Pro Football Hall of Fame at 6:30 a.m., and registration is $100 per person.
