CANTON ‒ A 27-year-old woman has pleaded not guilty to a charge of attempted murder filed against her in connection with an alleged assault on a relative.

Alissa L. Parr of Root Avenue NE also pleaded not guilty to an indictment charging her with felonious assault, domestic violence and menacing by stalking in connection with the incident. She is accused of causing serious harm by slashing a man's throat with a utility knife on July 22.

Parr was arrested July 23 and is being held in the Stark County Jail on a $75,000 bond set by Canton Municipal Court Magistrate Christy Pierson, who ordered the defendant to have no contact with the alleged victim.

The Canton Police Department initially filed charges of felonious assault and domestic violence in municipal court. The domestic violence charge was a felony. The police complaint said the defendant was previously convicted of assaulting the same family member. The latest municipal court case was dismissed when Parr was indicted by a Stark County grand jury.

She was arraigned Friday in Stark County Common Pleas Court. The case has been assigned to Judge Chryssa N. Hartnett.

Parr's attorney Kristin L. Zalenski declined to comment on her case.
