Santa Clarita’s Olive Branch Theatricals Announces “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” and “MATTY: An Evening with Christy Mathewson”
Six awkward spelling champions learn that winning (and losing) isn’t everything. Olive Branch Theatricals is announcing TWO live-performance shows this summer; the first involves an eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves a champion! At least the losers get a juice box. Complete with audience participation, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a delightful den of comedic genius and a riotous ride. With a small cast, it’s sure to be a fast-paced crowd-pleaser. Please Note: This musical is rated PG-13 and is a satire of stereotypes. There is a song about puberty and other young adult-themed jokes throughout. May not be appropriate for audience members under the age of 13. The show run dates are weekends throughout July from the 6th – the 21st with tickets ranging from $20 – $23. VOLUNTEER SPELLERS get in for FREE, but there are only 4 spots available at each performance and they go fast! So hurry and catch one before they’re all gone! The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is presented through a special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. www.mtishows.com Immediately following the run of Spelling Bee will be Matty: An Evening with Christy Mathewson written and performed by Eddie Frierson. Matty is the life story of Christy Mathewson, legendary hall-of-fame pitcher for the New York Giants (1900 to 1916), gentleman, philosopher and first true American hero who inspired a whole generation of fans to make baseball America’s.
